October 17th

Wow what a day!! We left the hotel at 7:30 am and returned at 8:30 pm. We first visited with our friends the koalas and kangaroos. We were able to pet and feed the kangaroos. We next went to the Pinnacle dessert. That was a sight to behold. This should be one of the 7 wonders of the world. Next stop was 4WD in our bus in the sand dunes. Up and down the dunes we went. Many of us tried our hand in sand boarding. What a blast.

We leave now for Ayers Rock for our overnight outback camp trip. I do not think we have internet thier so I will get in touch in Cairns.

October 17th post

D'day Mates

October 13
Well we all arrived safely and exhausted after 36 hours of travel from the time we arrived at the Calgary airport to when we arrived at the Mecure Hotel in Perth. As it was only 2 pm and we all had to stay awake for at least another 6 hours. Some opted to go for a walk and check out the area, shops, restaurants, etc. Well I lasted until 7:00 pm as did most and it was lights out.
October 14
We all met between 6:00 am and 7:15 am for a fantastic buffet breakfast. Then we all loaded 2 buses for a city tour of Perth and Fremantle. Lots of history and our bus drivers were very entertaining and full of knowledge about this city. Our bus driver had us laughing all the time. I will download pictures tonight for this day.

Next some of us boarded our bus and were off to CETO energy tour. This was a tour and presentation of thei Wave Energy Research Facility. CETO1 prototype is the concept of gerating zero-emission power and freshwater from ocean waves.

On our way back we did stop at a beach and some of us got wet. Yahooooooooooo!! At least we got to feel the Indian Ocean and see some of the life on the beach if you know what I mean.

We went back to hotel to change and all load up on the buses again and go for aother fantastic buffet at the Sorrento Boat Harbour at the Jettys Restaurant. Christine McLean Managing Director of Perth Convention Bureau meet us their to welcome us to Perth. We were very fortunate to have them host the bar.

Ok now we are beyond exhuasted. This was a loooooong day. We all could not wait to crawl into bed.

October 15th

Up early for breakfast and loaded up the buses for the tours. We were in either Rockingham Dolphin, Penguin & Sea Lion Tour, Rottnest island. The bad part for this day was no one got to swim with the dolphins because the boats lift was not working. It was a safety issue. Pictures to follow.

Everyone had to rush back and change into their most professional clothes to attend the Petroleum of Western Australia's dinner meeting. WOW there was a huge room full of men in suits. Most of our single ladies were in their glory. We were treated to appetizers, red and white wine, champagne and beer. This carried on through dinner and then we were offered liquors after dinner. Now this is a fantastic way to have a meeting. We were treated with a traditional dinner, lamb which was very good.

Kathi and I did a presentation on ADDC. Our guest speaker, Thys Heyns from BP Refinery Kwinana talked about the need for fossil fuels for the future, concerns for the environment and taxation on the industry. Generally Western Australia have the sames concerns as Western Canada - Resourse rich and population poor.

We presented them with our Bit of Fun book which was highly received as this club is big on educating the public about the industry.

Another loooong day and we all crashed into bed.

October 16th
Ok up and at em' again. The bus left at 7:30 am to go on the same tours as was offered on the 16th. When we went on the Rottnest Island tour, me included, did not feel very well after the Underwater Adventure tour where we saw sunken ships, fish etc. We should have all took Motion Sickness Pills. I am going to take one of those pills every morning as we never know what or how we are going. Next we boarded a train to visit the histoical site of Oliver Hill Battery. Some went on anothe tour of the island and had a very strict tour guide. There could not talk. Guess who was on the tour. Linda Green, Sue Dennis, Daphne Chandle, etc. This was very hard for them Pictures to follow.
